Good-Bye Piggy Bank

Good Bye Piggy Bank art

Its been a while since we had to part with an American icon. Well its time to say good bye to the piggy bank.
The piggy bank once known in the 18th century as “pig jar” was the way people often save money in kitchen pots. Its has since quite evolved into a glass, paster and plastic fabrications. Its container became the canvas for artist, brands and commercial retailers to provide a simple means for Americans to save money and to get some money when the need arises. Well to be honest we can’t obliterate the “pig bank” just yet but its headed for the slaughter house to be replace by our brand SaveUp Banks.

As we develop SaveUp Banks consumers will add our banks to their saving practices. Our banks is now the way to store loose change in a cool, decorative manner.  Out with the old and in with the cool.

As we embark on our creative path of bank designs the piggy bank icon will always be the key reference to savings. Plenty of art directors hate the use of the piggy bank in their concept illustrations  because its generic, common and “oh yeah we seen that before design”.  However, the iconic pig in all its gluttonous ways will continue to be around. Its famous in a non-famous way. The Disney/Pixar movies Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 feature a character named Hamm, a wise cracking, animated piggy bank. And nobody better not talk bad about the Muppets Miss Piggy.

With all the new spin in popular culture the pig is most accepted as a money box that will take up space on your desk or mantel. Our pink friend will hold its spot as a point of reference but change is coming… out of your pockets and into SaveUp Banks.
